Aerobic
An aerobic system has two to three tanks that treat household sewage waste into non-hazardous water. Oxygen is forced into the waste allowing the ‘good’ bacteria to convert solids into liquid. The liquid is siphoned to a sprinkler tank and chlorine is added as a disinfectant. The water is drained from this tank by being pumped to a series of sprinklers which can be used to water your lawn.

Conventional
A conventional system is usually a single tank where household sewage accumulates. The lighter water rises to the top and is drained into underground field lines or a gravel pit.
The State of Texas has many restrictions for the installation of new conventional systems and/or the repair of old ones. There are very few soil types that can support a conventional system, especially in East Texas. A certified Site Evaluator will have to make the determination, if your soil is compatible for a conventional system.
